“I dedicated myself to architecture…it comes first, I come last.” —Lutah Maria Riggs (b.1896–d.1984)
The first film tells the story of Lutah Maria Riggs, a female pioneer in Southern California architecture. Some of the earliest modern architecture in the region developed from a hybrid of Spanish Mission and International Style, a modest blend of tradition and innovation paralleled by Lutah’s own mix of tenacity and charisma. Long ignored by historians, her works are cherished Santa Barbara icons.
