Living Together: The Story of De Warren follows a group of young people during the creation of a housing cooperative that aims to be sustainable, social, and affordable. The project is ambitious: it is the first of its kind in the Netherlands, and within the group of young residential pioneers, nobody has ever built a house before.
An Amsterdam-based group of friends dreams of living sustainably, affordably and, above all, together. De Warren is the first realised self-build housing cooperative in Amsterdam and consists of 36 households. This special way of living together requires a different role for the architect, municipality, and contractor. Without any prior knowledge, the collective managed to find its way in developing, designing and building a collective residential building. But at what cost? Living Together shows what it takes to realise this special form of collective housing.
